The General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) has announced a discount of 50 percent on unpaid traffic fines in line with the ministerial decision issued by Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
The decision is not restricted to a certain period of time and applies to the Traffic and Licensing Department in Abu Dhabi Emirate and its various sections in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia (the Western Region).
The move aims to encourage motorists to comply with the traffic laws and regulations and enhance the safety on roads.
ADP has also announced an extension in working hours of the fine payment centres across the Emirate from 7:30 in the morning until 12 at midnight to help motorists avail themselves of the reprieve.
ADP has also made it clear that the decision to slash traffic fines does not mean any leniency towards reckless motorists who commit serious violations which would result in impounding the vehicle and withdrawing the licence in case of accumulating 24 black points.
The Pay Traffic Fines service on the Abu Dhabi eGovernment Portal, abudhabi.ae, has also been updated in line with the new changes made to the electronic payment system at ADP. The service allows people to enquire about any traffic violations and pay the fines online using their traffic ID, car plate number or licence number.
The Traffic and Patrol Department at ADP has recently stepped up its efforts to control traffic and curb offences on all roads across the Emirate which resulted in an increasing number of penalties.
